Everyone at some point in their life has played the game where they lay back on the grass and try to identify shapes in clouds. More often than not, those shapes take the form of an animal. So why not take this concept and make a fundraiser out of it by seeing who can submit the best animal in the clouds photo?

If your organization deals with pets in any way, this fundraiser is a great tie-in. You can create multiple award categories such as best overall animal in the clouds photo, most beautiful photo, best dog in the clouds photo, best jungle animal in the clouds photo, etc. Participants will have to identify the animal with each submission.

Develop your contest rules and have a place on your website where people can submit their photo entries. If you will be displaying all photos entered, be sure you have participants agree to terms that give you the right to post the photos and share them as you see fit. Include in the rules that photography must be original and no stock photos or photos copied from websites are allowed and will be disqualified.

In addition to highlighting the winning photo(s) in your website, make a deal with the local newspaper or television station to also showcase the winning photo. Collect donations for photo submissions and find some area sponsors who will donate prizes for the winners.

You’ll want to start promoting your photo contest at least 1-month in advance (3 months is ideal). Give people at least 1-month to submit their entries, since clouds don’t form every day. Be sure to promote heavily on all your social media channels. Also, create some fun and creative posters and flyers that you can place throughout the community.
