Whatever you want to call it, this fundraising idea is both creative and fun! The idea is to form groups of artists (1 to 2 people each) to draw out an artistic masterpiece made of colored chalk on the sidewalks of your town or city. Of course, they don’t have to be professional artists. They just need to have some drawing talent.
Have the artists draw something that represents your cause or organization. For example, if you are raising funds for an animal rescue group, the art can be all about dogs and cats. Or if you are raising funds for a sports team or club, have the artists draw out sports-related themes.
For revenue, set out a collection bucket (or volunteer) next to each final work of art and have the public vote for their favorite by placing a donation into the appropriate bucket. Be sure to have signs up about the event and what it’s supporting, so that people will be more willing to give. Play music if you can as it attracts more attention. Also, you will need to get the approval from your city or town to draw on the sidewalks. They may even want to get involved! Get local businesses to sponsor the event and donate prizes that you can award to the winners.
You’ll want to start promoting this fundraiser at least 1-month in advance (start looking for artist volunteers at least 2-months in advance), and make sure that you’re not planning to hold the event during your rainy season. If you set up in a busy area, you will need to rope off the area so people don’t walk on the art. You will need to set up a viewing lane to allow for close up viewing of the art and voting. Although you should get a good amount of passerby admirers and participation, you will still need to promote heavily on all your social media channels. Also, create posters and flyers that you can place throughout the community.
