This popular and easy fundraising idea challenges people to hit a golf ball closest to the hole. Participants tee off from a designated area on a golf course (a par 3 hole works well), and the person who hits their ball into the hole or closest to the hole wins. Charge a donation fee of $1 or $2 per ball, and you’ll have hundreds of people trying. Some people will pay to hit 10 or more balls. Have a grand prize and prizes for runners up. Be sure you have some system of marking ball positions so you can identify the winners.

This is a great fundraising idea for all types of organizations and groups, not just sports teams. Make sure you have cancellation plans in place should there be issues with the weather. Make some extra money on the side by selling refreshments (tied to a gold theme would be ideal – such as golf ball styled cupcakes).
