Is your community musically inclined? If so, you may want to consider hosting this fundraising idea where everyone gets together in a bar, restaurant, park, community center, school gym, etc. to see who knows the words to popular (and not so popular) songs. Actually what happens at this event is that participants are selected to get up on stage and finish the words to various songs. They start singing once the music is cut off. In addition to awarding prizes to anyone who can finish a song with no mistakes (or finish the next few lines of a song), you can make it extra fun by awarding prizes for best voice, worst voice, etc.
As with most fundraising ideas centered around an event, themes work best. And with music, there is no end to the themes you can select. Think 80’s tunes, 70’s tunes, boy bands, big hair bands, crooners, old school country, rap, etc.
It would be easiest to hire an experienced wedding DJ to run the audio. They will also have a large library of tunes. Ask them if they can give you a discounted rate. If the facility you choose for the event doesn’t already serve food and drinks, you’ll need to have some available.
Charge a table fee or require a donation to attend the event. For even more revenue, get a couple of businesses to sponsor the event. You’ll want to start promoting this fundraiser at least 1-month in advance. Create a sign up form on your website and be sure to promote heavily on all your social media channels. Also, create posters and flyers that you can place throughout the community.
