We’re not talking about putting pets into baskets (although that might look cute), but rather creating gift baskets which include items for pets that you can sell as gifts to pet owners and to people looking for unique gifts to give to pet owners. This fundraising idea can work great for any club, group or organization that has the ability to reach a large number of pet owners.
The idea here is to fill baskets with inexpensive pet goodies and offer them for sale at your special event. You can purchase pet toys, chew toys, pet accessories, pet food and more online and in bulk which will save money and allow for higher mark-up on the baskets.
You should be able to net a 40-50% profit on each basket sold. In other words, you add $40 (retail value) of items which you purchased for $25 (bulk cost) to your basket and sell it for $50, you net $25 or 50%. You can purchase pet-themed containers as well (instead of baskets). You can have volunteers make some items as well, which helps add value to your baskets.
Run the event like you would any type of sale (book sale, bake sale, etc.) where you display the items on tables. You can also earn more revenue by holding a raffle as well!
You’ll want to start promoting this fundraiser at least 1-month in advance. Be sure to promote heavily on all your social media channels. Also, create posters and flyers that you can place throughout the community.
