Rose Sale Fundraiser Idea For Clubs, Groups, and Schools

Roses are red, violets are blue, why not create a fundraiser that smells nice too? While it’s by no means a new fundraising idea, it’s certainly not oversaturated like selling cookies and candy. We’re talking about selling a dozen long-stemmed roses for a profit. You can sell single long-stemmed roses as well. This type of fundraiser works great for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Grandparents Day, etc. You can also build your event around “National Rose Day”, which is celebrated on June 12 (apparently).

The Elgin Lions Club in Illinois has been successfully selling roses for 36 years to help support causes such as getting eye care for people in the community who need it but have difficulty affording it. All people have to do is place a call to the Elgin Lions Club, order 1-dozen long-stemmed roses, and schedule delivery on specific days that the Lions Club has earmarked.

If you have enough volunteers to make deliveries, this is a really easy fundraiser to organize. You can take orders by phone, like the Lions Club does, or you can let people place orders online and have the roses delivered by your crew of volunteers.

As far as sourcing the roses goes, there are some online flower companies that sell in bulk to non-profit groups. You can also check out Amazon or contract with wholesale florists and grocery stores to buy roses at a discount. You may even be able to work out a deal with a local florist. If you do order online, make sure that you also have a local source available should your fundraiser exceed expectations.

Be sure to contact your local city or county for any needed permits. You’ll want to start promoting this event at least 3-months in advance, especially if you plan to do the fundraiser around Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day. Place posters all over town, contact your local media, and be sure to create some clever social media posts.
