A shadow person is often described as a black or dark mass that resembles the figure of a human body. These shadowy figures have been a part of popular folklore and scary ghost stories for many centuries.
There is a lot of back and forth discussion among paranormal experts as to what shadow people actually are or if they really exist. Some paranormal experts believe shadow people to be alien beings rather than ghostly spirits. Some believe them to be negative and menacing, while others aren’t so sure.
Whatever the explanation, there seems to be enough activity and captured evidence to warrant continued discussion.
For many of the sightings associated with shadow people, there may be a perfectly logical scientific explanation. Some experts believe that a person who is suffering from sleep paralysis may perceive a shadowy figure. The person is scared and unable to move. Their mind conjures up these images of being approached by a dark mass.
In other cases, a witness may just be interpreting a regular shadow as something paranormal, simply because their environment has them a little spooked. Oftentimes, people report seeing a shadowy figure out of the corner of their eye. In these instances, their eye may be catching something not quite clear and their brain fills in the gap by showing something that may be more recognizable, such as the shape of a human figure. Others may simply be hallucinating as a result of some underlying condition.
But these scientific explanations don’t explain any of the images of shadow people that investigators claimed to have caught on camera. Having looked at some of these images, it’s pretty clear that in many cases there could be other explanations for the dark mass appearing in the image. But in a few cases, it can be hard to argue that what we’re seeing could indeed be something we can’t explain.
As to exactly what shadow people are or if they even exist, we’ll probably never know for sure.
