Ghost hunters and other types of paranormal investigators refer to an intelligent haunting as a ghost or spirit which has the capability of interacting with the present day environment that surrounds it. It has awareness. Maybe not in the same way that we do, but it’s said to be spatially aware.
Intelligent spirits are believed to have the ability to gather energy from the surrounding environment. This collection of energy allows them to move objects, speak, touch, open and close doors, interfere with electronic devices, create temperature fluctuations, and much more.
These intelligent spirits may appear as mists, shadows, light forms, and full-bodied apparitions. Sometimes they may not appear at all, although their presence can still be felt or heard in the room.
An intelligent haunting is what we think of with the traditional definition of a ghost. The soul of an individual who has passed. For whatever reason, these souls decided to remain attached to a certain building or location following their death.
Paranormal investigators believe that in life, these intelligent spirits formed a strong, emotional attachment to the place they are haunting. It could be the place where they died, it could be the place they felt most at home, they could have unfinished business, they could be trying to send a message, or they may not even be aware of the fact that they passed away.
Some paranormal investigators also believe that an intelligent spirit could also be attached to a specific object that may have held special meaning for them when they were alive. Investigators believe that the spirit travels with this object wherever it goes. Although this theory has never been proven, and likely never will be.
